Although I’ve been disabled for a long time, I’ve only identified as disabled for a couple of years because I was not aware that I could! My medical team never discussed it with me. It was by chance I learned of some disability resource fairs in my area and later of online disability communities. Learning about the disability community has been a liberating experience. As I find my place within the disability community, I’ve begun to work on finding ways to advocate for myself and others in the face of pervasive ableism, especially since the pandemic started and disabled folks have been disproportionately impacted.
I’ll be posting updates on this page on work I do as I learn ways to effectively advocate.
Most recently, I was invited to speak at the Generation Patient International Virtual Summit for the Higher Education, the Workplace and Self-Employment panel.
I’m building this space by posting resources, tips & tricks I’ve learned over the years. These include resources for nondisabled allies as well.
Finally, I’ve been writing a blog for a couple years and it’s mostly ended up being focused on my experiences with different health issues and various disability justice issues. You can follow my blog here.
